Reach Records (2011)
Review by Aidan Severs
On the verge of dropping his Rehab Deluxe album (which includes Rehab and Rehab: The Overdose for the price of one album) Lecrae does the sensible thing and drops a new single. Hallelujah is one of the 5 bonus tracks on the deluxe edition.
The concept of Hallelujah; is simple: it’s a before and after account of a Christian’s life and experience. Whilst it may not necessarily be Lecrae’s exact testimony (it may be, though), it’s one his target audience can relate to. Over a hyperactive beat Lecrae raps a part warning and testimony to others and part psalm to God.
Whilst the subject matter is standard fare for Christian Rap and lyrically Lecrae isn’t technical, the folk at Reach Records clearly see the need for something to sound a little different; the switches in beat and flow throughout Hallelujah make for a track that will stand out a little. For fans, this is a nice addition to both Rehab albums. For the unconvinced, if Lecrae hasn’t done it for you yet, then this probably won’t change your mind.
Hallelujah is available now on iTunes and Rehab Deluxe is out now on Reach Records.
